SppExtComObjHook.dll - What Does it Mean When Detected?
If your antivirus product of choice, whether it's just Microsoft Defender installed with your copy of Windows, or a third-party tool, blips up with a new detection and you see the name "SppExtComObjHook.dll", chances are you are trying to "crack" or activate your copy of Windows using an illegal tool.
SppExtComObjHook.dll is a file component associated with a number of different, unlicensed, and largely illegal "activation" tools that aim to make a freshly installed copy of Windows behave like it has been officially activated. The issue with this sort of tool is usually twofold.
On the one hand, using those tools is illegal as you are essentially pirating or "cracking" your copy of Windows. The other equally important issue is that the overwhelming majority of downloads for those tools you can find online are malicious.
There are literally thousands of torrent portals and untrustworthy websites that will claim they carry some version of those tools. The vast majority of those downloads will be malware, named and packaged to look like the tool. The malicious contents packed inside can range from Trojans and cryptojackers to even ransomware and those types of files are best avoided.
