Ourhugenewz.com Pushes Notification Spam

browser hijacker

During a routine examination of suspicious websites, our research team came across ourhugenewz.com. Upon investigation, it was determined that this is a deceptive webpage designed to promote browser notification spam and has the capability to redirect visitors to other misleading websites.

The majority of users land on sites like ourhugenewz.com through redirects initiated by pages utilizing deceptive advertising networks. It's important to note that the content promoted on and through such rogue websites may vary, potentially influenced by the visitor's IP address.

At the time of our investigation, ourhugenewz.com displayed a progress bar that consistently failed to load, fluctuating between 98% and 99%. Below this visual element were instructions urging users to "Click the Allow button to subscribe to push notifications and continue watching," implying that enabling browser notifications was necessary to resume viewing online content. An animated arrow directed attention to the notification prompt.

Rogue websites leverage their browser notifications (in the form of advertisements) to endorse online scams, unreliable or harmful software, and potential malware. Consequently, users visiting sites like ourhugenewz.com may be exposed to system infections and further privacy and security issues.

Why You Should Never Click 'Allow' on Unfamiliar Websites

Clicking 'Allow' on unfamiliar websites can expose you to various risks and potential security threats. Here are compelling reasons why you should exercise caution and refrain from clicking the 'Allow' button on websites you're not familiar with:

Unwanted Notifications:
Clicking 'Allow' often grants the website permission to send you push notifications. This can result in a flood of unwanted notifications, which may include spam, advertisements, or even links to malicious content.

Browser Notification Spam:
Some websites use deceptive tactics to trick users into enabling notifications, only to bombard them with spammy content. This can be annoying and intrusive, disrupting your online experience.

Risk of Malicious Downloads:
Allowing notifications may also be a part of a strategy to deceive users into downloading malicious files or software. Clicking 'Allow' without proper verification can lead to unintentional downloads that may harm your device.

Phishing Scams:
Cybercriminals often use fake prompts, such as requests to enable notifications, to trick users into divulging personal information or login credentials. Clicking 'Allow' may unknowingly expose you to phishing scams and compromise your sensitive data.
