Myzevstudio.com Hides Ads Behind Fake Bot Check

Myzevstudio.com is an misleading website that came to our attention during an investigation of various suspicious sites. Its purpose is to promote spam browser notifications and guide visitors to other websites, which are often untrustworthy or potentially harmful. Typically, users land on myzevstudio.com and similar pages due to redirects initiated by websites that employ dubious advertising networks.

The actions of these illegitimate pages, including what they host and promote, can vary based on the visitor's IP address. When we visited myzevstudio.com, it presented us with a fake CAPTCHA verification. The page displayed a drawing of five cartoon-style robots with text instructing visitors to "Click 'Allow' if you are not a robot."

If someone attempts to complete this deceptive test, myzevstudio.com gains permission to display browser notifications. These notifications predominantly endorse online scams, untrustworthy or hazardous software, and, in some instances, malware.

As a result, through websites like myzevstudio.com, users may be exposed to system infections, severe privacy concerns, financial losses, and the risk of identity theft.

How Can You Recognize a Misleading Anti-Bot Check?

Recognizing a misleading anti-bot check, also known as a CAPTCHA, is essential to avoid falling for deceptive tricks on the internet. Misleading CAPTCHAs are often used by malicious websites to manipulate users. Here are some ways to identify such deceptive anti-bot checks:

  • Excessive Complexity: A legitimate CAPTCHA should be reasonably straightforward and solvable by a human within a short time. If a CAPTCHA seems excessively complex, with distorted or unreadable characters, it may be an attempt to confuse or frustrate users.
  • Noisy or Unclear Background: A misleading anti-bot check may have a noisy or cluttered background, making it challenging to distinguish the CAPTCHA characters. This can be a tactic to prevent successful completion.
  • Grammar and Spelling Errors: Check for grammar and spelling mistakes in the instructions or labels. Misleading CAPTCHAs might contain errors that a legitimate service would not have.
  • Unusual Language or Wording: Be wary of CAPTCHAs with unusual or unfamiliar language and phrasing. Legitimate CAPTCHAs typically use common and straightforward instructions.
  • Unusual Requests: Misleading CAPTCHAs may include requests that seem unrelated to bot verification, such as clicking on specific ads or providing personal information. Legitimate CAPTCHAs only require users to solve a puzzle.
  • Unconventional Graphics: If the CAPTCHA involves graphics or images that appear unrelated to typical CAPTCHAs, be cautious. This could be a sign of deception.
  • Excessive Delay or Reload Requests: Some misleading CAPTCHAs may introduce unnecessary delays or ask users to reload the page repeatedly, causing frustration and annoyance.
  • Inconsistent Behavior: If the CAPTCHA behaves unpredictably or inconsistently, such as changing the characters after a failed attempt, it may not be legitimate.
  • Unfamiliar Domain: Check the website's domain where the CAPTCHA is presented. Misleading anti-bot checks are more likely on unfamiliar or suspicious domains.
