Watch out for Cats fanpage Browser Hijacker

Cats fanpage is the name of a potentially unwanted application that is classified as a browser hijacker.

Like most browser hijackers, Cats fanpage makes changes to browser settings and modifies them in order to promote a fake search engine. This is done by changing the default search engine of the affected browser to use "search.cats-fan.com" instead of the original default search you used before installing Cats fanpage.

The search results produced using the search engine promoted by the browser hijacker are all Bing search pages. This is normal behavior for fake search engines, as they cannot produce their own results and just siphon your query through a legitimate, popular engine.

However, you have no control over your search query before it gets bounced to the legitimate engine. Your searches may be logged, stored or otherwise used without your explicit consent.

This is why you should always avoid middle-man fake search engines that simply produce Bing or Google results pages. There is no reason to keep them installed and they are only a potential source of privacy issues.

If you have Cats fanpage in your browser, it is recommended that you uninstall it.
