Tuow Ransomware is een nieuwe Djvu-kloon
De nieuwste ransomware-variant die in het wild is gespot, is een andere variant van de Djvu-ransomwarecode. De nieuwe variant heet simpelweg de Tuow ransomware.
Tuow versleutelt bestanden op het beoogde systeem, waardoor ze onbruikbaar worden. Versleutelde bestanden krijgen de extensie ".tuow", die ook dienst doet als de naam van de ransomware, bij gebrek aan een beter alternatief. Het coderingsproces verandert een bestand met de naam "image.png" in "image.png.tuow".
Gecodeerde bestanden bevatten media-, document-, uitvoerbare en archiefbestandsindelingen.
Het losgeldbriefje wordt in een bestand met de naam "_readme.txt" geplaatst. De volledige nota is als volgt:
